I think it is Smyth sending this.
I can't remember the book his brother in law appears in.

Is that from "The Boy Biggles" in the bit where he saves the little boy from the crocodile and his father questions his blood-stained clothing afterwards?

Bertie cooks a stew in one of the books, and I think Biggles complained it had too many onions.
Can't recall the book.

Second Case? Where Bertie is cooking and Biggles complains about the smell?

Yes, Fairblue, mine was from Baltic. Apologies if I jumped the gun, TS.

It's Second Case, if this is the excerpt you were thinking of:

‘It might be,’ agreed Biggles. ‘I’ll tell you what, Algy. Fill up with petrol, and for a start fly back towards Corbie Island to see if you can spot the whaler coming. That’ll settle any argument. Take Bertie with you for a breath of fresh air. This hut stinks like the fo’c’sle of a Dutch onion boat.’

‘Here, I say, old boy, I was only making Irish stew,’ protested Bertie. ‘Jolly good stew, too. Try some?’

‘We’ll take a chance,’ agreed Biggles, smiling.
