Biggles the Babysitter

RPG mess abouts. A place to be creative

The phone rang. It was Gaskin. He'd had a report from Traffic on the owner of the van. One of the traffic cameras had caught its number plate.
'Major Bigglesworth' said Von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

"Let me have the address," Biggles demanded, Mumsnet forgotten for the time being.

Biggles did. Stopping only to pick up his revolver he hurriedly made his way back to the Yard where Gaskin was waiting.

Gaskin drove their unmarked car and parked discretely near to the address, he and Biggles looked over at the property. It was a large villa-style town house, the type that has attics and cellars, as well as a large detached garage (originally the stables and carriage house) and set in extensive gardens. "They're not short of a few bob" commented Gaskin.

'I wonder why they own a van?' Biggles questioned. 'It's not the sort of vehicle I'd expect to be registered to a house like this.'

“You’d be surprised,” Gaskin grunted, “I’ve known plumbers live in places like this.”

Biggles grunted. He'd had to call out a plumber recently to fix a leaking pipe under his bath and he'd announced, when he'd seen the bill, that he was in the wrong trade entirely and was considering re-training.He could well believe that a plumber was in the supertax bracket.

The dog unit arrived and the wpc handler got out and fetched Hecate from the back of the van. A very energetic spaniel arrived and sat on command, tail still wagging.

Perhaps he had hoped to hide something ? Biggles made a mental note and turned to find Gaskin who was preparing to advise the dog handler, they planned to start with a grounds search.

Biggles let them get started with the search of the grounds and went into the house. He made his way up to the attics, opening doors and glancing into each room as he passed. He was very worried about Algy and how his kidnap fitted into the spy-who-embarrassed scenario they were investigating.

There was a sudden scuffle from behind the walls. Biggles looked startled until he realised there was a gap between the roof and the walls, no more than a crawlway. Looking found frantically he saw a low door open at the end of the room he was in.
