There were mixed feelings about this. Some thought it would be a waste of time, others saw it as an easy task;- a chance to lie in the sun and do nothing.

Senior Feline was pleased with the results of the meeting. She had rendered the rebellion of the young kits useless by forcing them into a subcommittee. They would be very busy getting nowhere for months now. A watch rota had been drawn up in case of the one with the eyeglass arriving. This was good progress.

If she did well, she had high hopes of promotion up the ranks. She had always wanted to go to London.

Senior cat lost herself in a daydream of what she'd like to do in London. Look at the Queen, of course.

She'd like to prowl through the tunnels of the London Underground after the trains stopped for the night. She'd heard some strange things lived down there. She wanted to see them.

Eventually she came out of her daydream and set about thinking of her next step. There was a lovely feeling of unrest after the headlines of yesterday. How could that be exploited?

However, back at the yard, the Air Commodore was back from his holiday, which had been extended somewhat beyond the original two weeks as his wife had enjoyed their time away so much. He telephoned the team's office to speak to Biggles.

Raymond knew Biggles rather well and wondered what he was hiding. He eyed him carefully.

"What did he break?" Raymond sighed.
"For goodness sake stop that Yankee drawl, or you'll have us all doing it before you've finished."
"OK baby - sorry - I mean, righto."
"That's better."

'Only me,' Biggles sighed, and left to fetch Tibbles.

Tibbles had grown used to his new routine and was therefore surprised when Biggles arrived in the middle of his post dinner nap. He opened a sleepy eye to see what intruder was daring to disturb him.

Tibbles had very mixed feelings about this. He wanted his own house and slaves back but he hadn't finished the job he'd been asked to do. Reluctantly, he decided he'd better stay. He made a stupendous effort and managed to climb the curtains to sit on the pole above the window.

Biggles had tall windows, practically floor to high ceiling, which were very good at illuminating his flat, but the curtain pole could only be reached by use of a step ladder. Biggles went to see the janitor to borrow his. This took a little time as the janitor needed to comment on how it wasn't Christmas (when Biggles hung decorations from the pole) and Mrs Symes had washed the curtains only the previous month.

Biggles erected the ladder and climbed up it to fetch Tibbles. Tibbles waited until he was nearly steady on the top rung then ambled across the pole to the other end where he sat and licked his paw, ready to commence washing his face.

The second set of steps were collected and put up. Tibbles waited for the janitor to reach the top of his ladder and begin stretching out to him before leaping to the curtain pole over the second set of windows in Biggles' flat. He had a wobbly moment, but regained his balance.

Biggles rummaged in the fridge and found the smoked salmon Gimlet had sent to Bertie from his estate in Scotland. He put a large portion onto a plate which he placed next to Tibbles's travel box. Tibbles groaned on his curtain pole perch. This surely contravened his feline rights. It was more than a tomcat could bear. He would put in a formal complaint with the Cat Council.

One part of his mind was sure he could do it. If he moved to the top of the arm chair, then he could reach the salmon in one leap, seize it and run up the vacated ladder to reach the safety of the curtain pole once more. Tibbles knew how lucky he had been to get up the curtains the last time. It was not the sort of exercise a tomcat of his age and dignity should be able to achieve and he wasn't going to push his luck by trying the curtain route a second time.
