Algy calculated how long it would take him to fly to Australia in an Auster.

'Fine,' he agreed, certain the Australians would have sorted the problem by the time he got there.
'Major Bigglesworth' said Von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

'Bertie!', shouted Biggles as they toured the fire station, 'That is a fireman's pole, and do stop dancing on it!'

Biggles surveyed the wrecked aircraft and shook his head sadly. "Well, that's the last time we're taking part in Operation Red Flag.
There's no chance the RAAF will let Ginger near one of their Growler's again" he said to Algy.

Biggles watched the Auster climbing steadily away.
'That Ginger?' asked Algy. Biggles nodded.
'Does he still think that's a Liberator?' Algy asked. Biggles nodded again.
'You are going to have to tell him one day'.

Biggles gritted his teeth and forced himself to do another set of crunchies. He was fed up of being the only one without a six pack.

Not only that but Crunchie is a brand of English chocolate bar with a honeycomb toffee sugar centre.

(Still haunted by disturbing thoughts of Bertie and a firemans pole).

I am getting really fed up with flying all over the world - I think I will return to Smettleworth and go to work in the mines after all Ginger thought when they returned home from the South Seas.

"Oh look" said Algy to Ginger, "the intelligence chappies were right, as always, they do give us all the good gen."
"Don't they ever" agreed Ginger, moving forward into the unoccupied room and scooping up the stolen files, "imagine if they'd put guards on the place"
"Oh, we'd be tied up to some stakes and sweating it out in the sun by now I expect" Algy agreed absently, filling his pockets with the jack rats he had found, "Biggles would be late coming to find us and there we would remain. I suppose you'd get awfully burnt" he added, stowing a very nice half bottle into his ankle pocket and checking they had everything they were supposed to get.
"It's not my fault" grumbled Ginger, as they sauntered out of the office and back to their aircraft, "I didn't even want to come here. I'd have been happier at home."

Bored by a spell of inactivity, he had threatened to go off alone, taking the aircraft, an amphibian named Wanderer, if the others refused to bestir themselves.

"'K, bye," said Biggles, without looking up from the newspaper.

'Oh!' exclaimed Lady Lacey, pouring the tea as her young guest gazed across the lawns at the house.
'How interesting you are going to that part of Germany'. She passed the cup and saucer across. Bees buzzed in the roses, swallows soared and swooped and alighted at their nests under the high sun baked eves to feed their voracious shrieking young.
'I have a sister, elder sister, quite a wayward girl', she paused as memories caught up with her with a smile. 'Bit of the black sheep of the family', she added. 'She married out there, Father was absolutely livid, we lost contact years ago. If you do happen to come across her, do let me know. Her married name was... Stalhein... Von Stalhein.

Biggles didn't care he was too young. He didn't care that he was absconding from school. His country needed him and he was ready. Nothing was going to stop him from joining...
