The door was opened by Kylie O'Reilly.

She tried to shut it, but Biggles was quicker and threw his weight against it to stop her.

""How about putting the kettle on," he said as she began to retreat into the kitchen. "Riley gave me this address, so I think a little chat is in order, don't you?"

Biggles heard the back door slam shut and hoped Algy would manage to apprehend whoever was exiting.

There was the sound of a dustbin falling over, a scuffle and a shout from Algy. Then the sound of the dustbin rolling around on concrete, more scuffles and muffled curses.
"Give him a hand, Bertie," Biggles ordered.

Bertie nodded and went to help. The dustbin sounds intensified, as did the shouts and yelps.

Kylie crossed her arms and looked defiant.

Biggles handcuffed her to the water pipe and went to see what was happening. Algy was tied by the clothes line to the chain link fence. The dustbin kept getting in the way of the two men who were rolling on the overgrown lawn. Biggles recognized Poodles.and as Bertie battled with him the dustbin was being constantly kicked. The rubbish which it had once contained had spilled out and the contents spread liberally over the ground. Biggles recognized old potato peelings, rotten fruit, ash and eggshells. He grinned. Bertie was not going to be best pleased.

Poodles kicked hard, and the dustbin slid over Bertie's head. Poodles took advantage of the momentary advantage to run for it, with Biggles in hot pursuit.

Biggles lunged for a leg and hung on grimly as Poodles launched himself at the wall. Poodles kicked out at his face with his free leg, but not very successfully as he was now trying to pull himself up to the top at the same time.

Bertie to help and together they got Poodles down and in an armlock. Algy, having freed himself from the clothesline, produced his handcuffs, and Poodles joined Kylie in the kitchen.

"The game's up, Poodles," he announced when he had called Gaskin. "We know about your little scheme. You bit off more than you could chew when you went into the Aviation business. But I'll tell you what I'm prepared to do. You give us lots of nice names and addresses, including those on the Continent and I'll see if I can arrange for you not to be sent to Wormwood Scrubs. Now, how about it?"

Raymond was highly delighted with the results as were his opposite numbers on the Continent. No more was said about Poodles' initial escape. Kylie left Riley as Poodles' had spilt the beans about the proceeds of O'Reilly's previous jobs, but went back to him when she discovered it had been turned into bricks and mortar in Spain. Biggles kept his promise to Riley who evidently didn't feel obliged to reciprocate, because about six months after the affair a postcard landed on Biggles desk from Riley, Kylie, Wiley and Miley which featured a golden beach in Benidorm and bore one single sentence. "Who says crime doesn't pay?"

THE END

Ha! Well done.
"For goodness sake stop that Yankee drawl, or you'll have us all doing it before you've finished."
"OK baby - sorry - I mean, righto."
