"But of course they are wrong," Algy said kindly, putting the car into gear and driving off at high speed. (Nobody had noticed him slip into the driver's seat).
The corners of Biggles' mouth twitched. "It's a sad thing to grow old without learning a thing or two." [Biggles Hunts Big Game]

"Where are we going?" Biggles asked glancing at Raymond.

Raymond smiled - "I thought it was time you had a nice long holiday," so we are going to Cornwall.

"Cornwall? But I don't want to go to Cornwall. I don't need a holiday. I've got to sell the Vandal. Mrs Symes- " he wound down, realising he was beginning to gabble.

Raymond touched Algy on the shoulder. "You know where to go, Lacey."

"And you don't need to worry, Bigglesworth. Those statements of your share values were false, designed to discredit you and force you into a corner. In fact, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say you're a lot better off than I am at the moment. So Lacey has taken the liberty of removing the Vandal from that online auction and Smyth is taking care of it now."

'Is 'a long holiday' a euphemism for retirement,' Biggles asked suspiciously.
'Major Bigglesworth' said Von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

"Certainly not. When I think you are ready to retire I will call you into my office and discuss training some new people," Raymond said.

"However you do know what this means now, don't you?" Raymond went on.

"What?" asked Biggles, ever cautious.

"Breakfast is on you. " Raymond declared, and sat back to enjoy the ride.

P.S. Mrs Symes was also very pleased with her new raise and a bonus for being so discrete about the whole "escort" business.
"For goodness sake stop that Yankee drawl, or you'll have us all doing it before you've finished."
"OK baby - sorry - I mean, righto."
"That's better."

Mrs Symes wasn't that discreet. She'd recommended them to all of her friends who were disappointed at not being able to book them. You're right she was pleased with her bonus.
