Biggles Of The Camel Squadron

Postby OzBiggles1963 » 30 Jul 2018, 10:24

Finally, a life long dream has eventuated & I have obtained my 1st Hamilton Biggles edition [Camel Squadron] after snapping up what I think is a bargain on ABE recently. Including postage to Australia, the total was approx. A$145, & I think this is quite reasonable in this day & age, when I see all the other terribly expensive copies out there. Apart from a little bit of bowing in the front cover & a small white spot, it is a very clean, well bound copy, & the gilding of the letters on the spine & front cover are still very bright. Though not a 1st edition, it has the John Hamilton Autumn 1936 Aviation Book Catalogue at the rear, of which I have the 1st two books listed, plus many of the others mentioned inside, lol. :D

An excellent find, OzB. Are you sitting staring at it?

Not bad at all. I paid a bit more for one with a copy dust wrapper a while back.

Well done, OzB. May it bring you many happy moments.

Hahaha! Haven't let it out of my sight since the mailman delivered it this afternoon. In fact, every hour or so I walk over, pick it up, stroke it obsessively for a few minutes & mutter repetitively [while no-one is looking of course, lol] "My Little Precious"'. I'm watching it as I type now. :D :? :pilot:

Thanks Frecks & others. Some yrs ago I paid a little bit more for a WEJ title [I think it was VC's of the Air], but the market has definitely come down in recent times imho. I've always had a [slightly] flexible rule of not paying more than A$150 for any of my acquisitions...although I did break this rule once when the Aussie dollar was very low [60Cents to the U.S. from memory].

I make and break all sorts of rules for my modelling purchases. I have finally cut down on my spending only to find Mr. Frecks has increased his - he collects 1/32 scale farm/logging machinery and has a large diorama soon to be increased :? There is just no more room in the house already the diorama covers the whole of the spare bed.
