Biggles and the Genie in the Lamp

Postby kylie_koyote » 17 Sep 2018, 23:56

Have fun. Anything goes.

A deleted scene from Forms a Syndicate

Biggles, Algy, Ginger, Bertie, and Dizzy stared at the treasure that Dizzy and Bertie had uncovered in the cavern.

“What’s this?” Ginger asked, stooping and picking up a brass oil lamp. “It looks just the sort of thing that Aladdin rubbed and brought out a genie.”

“You’ve been watching too many films,” Biggles teased, smiling. “But you’re right. It is just the sort of thing that would hold a genie. Here. Let me see it.”

Ginger passed it over. Biggles held it up to the light. It was a big smudged. He untucked the corner of his shirt and rubbed it.

Suddenly a loud wooshing sound filled the air and a loud, booming voice intoned “Who hath summoned me?”
"For goodness sake stop that Yankee drawl, or you'll have us all doing it before you've finished."
"OK baby - sorry - I mean, righto."
"That's better."

Biggles blinked, checked with sideways glimpses that the others could also see it, then owned up.

'I appear to have inadvertently disturbed you. What happens next? Do I get three wishes?'
'Major Bigglesworth' said Von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

The young blonde lady in the hareem pants etc straightened up from cringing at the disembodied voice and said 'Well that rather depends on what you want?'

Berties monocle dropped out and rolled across the floor.
"Spare my days! Who wants to be true to life? Why read about what you can see going on around you any day of the week?"

Suddenly the blonde was joined by a redhead and a brunette, also dressed in diaphonous harem costumes. Biggles looked at Algy.
'Major Bigglesworth' said Von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

“To think a wish is to have it granted,” the blonde, obviously the leader, looked straight at Algy as she spoke.

'That is most unfair,' Algy said indignantly. 'I was only considering my options.'

The blonde genie frowned at him and then sighed. “I suggest in future, you do not use the word ‘wish’ when considering your options,” she admonished him. “It leads to so many misunderstandings. However, in this case, I am prepared to be lenient. It will not count towards your total of wishes.” She snapped her fingers and the brunette and redhead disappeared in a puff of smoke.

The genie raised an eyebrow.

Biggles played absently with the lamp as he thought. 'I'd like to take a rain check. I need to sit down and have a think about the possibilities so I get the wishes right. I don't want to end up in a Monkey's Paw scenario. Can we meet again tomorrow?'

Choosing what they wanted was reasonably straight forward, at least for the first wish. Wealth. After all, that was why they were there in the first place treasure hunting. It was how to phrase the request. Biggles fretted through different wordings while the others tried to find the flaws.

At first, they couldn't find any. It seemed simple to be able to ask for immense wealth. Then Bertie put forward a thought. "How would you want it, old bean?"
